Micro-needling system or collagen induction therapy is a new treatment to the non-surgical rejuvenation arena which promises to be effective in creating brand new, healthy, younger looking skin.  It is a natural skin rejuvenation method that fills and softens wrinkles and scars. It doesn’t burn your skin (IPL/laser), dissolve it (chemical peels) or abrade and scrape it (dermabrasion).

This device increases the level of collagen and elastin in your skin and is an exciting treatment option for:

The MNS (micro-needling system) dermaroller looks like a cotton reel with 200 tiny needles that are thinner than your own hair.  These needles come in different lengths depending on whether they are for home use or clinic use. Clinic rollers are designed to reach the dermis where collagen formation takes place thus stimulating collagen production.  Homecare  rollers penetrate in to the epidermis and are aimed at assisting the penetration of active ingredients within skincare products. Clinical studies have proven that serum absorption is increased by as much as 1000 time when applied with micro needling.

Following topical anaesthetic (30 minutes) the device is rolled over your face (or area of concern) to create microscopic channels in to the dermis of the skin.  These micro-channels seal within hours of application – long enough for new collagen-structures to form within the lower layers of the skin and short enough to allow you to resume your normal life quickly.  Your body will then start to regenerate and repair the skin, working below the surface in the dermis new collagen and skin cells are formed and blood supply is enhanced.  This natural healing process is ongoing, taking up to 6 weeks before visible signs of regeneration and repair are seen, with the new collagen filling the ‘valleys’ of wrinkles and scars,

Immediately after the treatment your face may feel warm and tight and look as though you have moderate sunburn.  We can disguise this as you leave with Glominerals pharmaceutical grade mineral make up.  These effects subside within 2 hours and you should recover within the same day with only slight redness the following day.  Side-effects can include minor flaking or dryness of the affected area, very occasionally milia and rarely hyper-pigmentation which usually resolves after a month.  If you are prone to cold-sores, these may flare up and we would recommend a prophylactic course of Acyclovir.

To optimise the results we advise a course of 3 treatments, approximately 6 weeks apart.  Acne scarring and other types of scarring may need up to 5 treatments whereas for basic skin rejuvenation only one treatment can be of great benefit.
